A Mexican national, Jose Luis Carrasco-Aldape, has been charged with illegal reentry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announced the filing of a criminal complaint against Carrasco-Aldape, who is 37 years old and from Mexico. If found guilty, he could face up to two years in federal prison.
Court documents reveal that Carrasco-Aldape had previously been deported from the United States on two occasions: March 22, 2004, and October 12, 2017. He was discovered back in the U.S. on February 13, 2025, when law enforcement encountered him in Clay County. Authorities noted that he did not have consent from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to apply for readmission into the country.
It is important to note that a complaint is simply a formal charge alleging violations of federal criminal law. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The investigation involves Homeland Security Investigations, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein is prosecuting this case.
