Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield expressed approval following a federal judge's decision to block the Trump administration from cutting federal funding for medical institutions providing gender-affirming care. The ruling, issued today, prevents the withholding of funds nationwide for 14 days.

"Today’s ruling is a major win in the fight against Trump’s relentless attacks on transgender rights," stated Rayfield. "We will not stand by while our most vulnerable populations are stripped of their basic rights."

U.S. District Judge Lauren King commented during the hearing that the order "blatantly discriminated against trans youth" and suggested it would likely "not survive constitutional scrutiny."

The lawsuit was initiated by AG Rayfield, along with attorneys general from Washington and Minnesota, and three doctors specializing in youth gender medicine. They argued that Trump's order infringes upon Fifth Amendment equal protection rights for transgender patients.

Rayfield emphasized the importance of this ruling, stating, "It’s hard to believe that anyone, especially in a position of power, would try to make it harder for people to get life-saving care just because of their gender identity. Thankfully, today’s ruling stops that, and we can continue to fight for the dignity and rights of everyone, no matter who they are."
