John Gierek, a 35-year-old resident of Streamwood, Illinois, has been sentenced to 220 months in prison. This decision was made by United States District Court Chief Judge Holly A. Brady following Gierek's guilty plea to two counts of using an interstate commerce facility in the commission of a murder-for-hire. Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay announced the sentencing.
Gierek will also serve two years of supervised release after his prison term. The court documents revealed that between October 2023 and March 2024, Gierek used telephone communications to solicit an acquaintance for the murder of multiple individuals. In return for these acts, he promised a quantity of drugs and partial forgiveness of a drug debt. To facilitate the planned murders, Gierek provided tape, pepper spray, and a taser.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation with support from several law enforcement agencies including the Allen County Police Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana State Police, and Streamwood Police Department in Illinois. Assistant United States Attorney Lesley J. Miller Lowery prosecuted the case.
