Luis Alberto Sanchez-Espinoza, a 39-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund. This follows his guilty plea to charges of distributing cocaine and illegal re-entry into the United States, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay.
Sanchez-Espinoza will also serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term. The case documents reveal that law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop on June 5, 2023, on I-94 where they discovered cocaine in Sanchez-Espinoza’s vehicle. He had previously been deported from the United States several times, with the most recent removal occurring on March 23, 2022. This was after he completed a prison sentence for methamphetamine distribution in the Western District of Virginia.
The investigation into this case was carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Indiana State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Toth prosecuted the case.
