A Beaumont resident has been sentenced to federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr. Lequinte Dangelo Johnson, 37, admitted guilt and received a 24-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on February 13, 2025.
Court records reveal that in 2006, Johnson was convicted in Riverside, California, for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. This conviction required him to register as a sex offender. In July 2023, the U.S. Marshals Service in Beaumont obtained information about Johnson's updated registration paperwork from Arizona, indicating he had registered as homeless with a location in Glendale, Arizona. However, his contact number was listed with a "409" area code.
Further investigation through social media led authorities to discover that Johnson was residing in Beaumont without registering there. He was found living in a storage unit.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse. This initiative brings together resources from federal, state, and local levels to locate and prosecute individuals who exploit children online and rescue victims.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Grove.
