Attorney General Charity Clark, along with a coalition of 13 state attorneys general, issued a statement following a federal judge's decision to grant a preliminary injunction against President Trump's executive order aimed at terminating birthright citizenship. The group asserts that the President's actions are unconstitutional.

"President Trump may believe that he is above the law, but today’s preliminary injunction sends a clear message: He is not a king, and he cannot rewrite the Constitution with the stroke of a pen," said the coalition in their statement.

The coalition claims that they were prepared to challenge this action from the outset of Trump's presidency. They emphasized their commitment to defending constitutional rights, stating, "We immediately stood up for our Constitution, for the rule of law, and for American children across the country who would have been deprived of their constitutional rights – and today we delivered for them."

President Trump signed an executive order on January 20, 2025, intending to end birthright citizenship. This move was challenged by the coalition as it allegedly violated both the Fourteenth Amendment and Section 1401 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The lawsuit was filed in Massachusetts District Court aiming to invalidate Trump's executive order. The coalition sought immediate relief to prevent its implementation. Judge Leo Sorokin granted this request.

"This is not yet over," continued the statement from Attorney General Clark and her colleagues. "We will continue to fight every single step of the way until President Trump is permanently prevented from trampling on the Fourteenth Amendment rights of all Americans."

Today's ruling can be accessed online for further details.
