A Dominican man has been sentenced in Boston federal court for unlawful reentry into the United States. Wilmi Hernandez-Diaz, 29, received a 10-month prison sentence from U.S. District Judge William G. Young. Following his imprisonment, he will undergo one year of supervised release and is subject to deportation after serving his sentence.

Hernandez-Diaz had previously pleaded guilty in October 2024 to one count of unlawful reentry. He is a citizen of the Dominican Republic with past convictions for conspiracy to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine. After these convictions, he was deported from the United States on June 4, 2019.

In May 2024, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Hernandez-Diaz upon discovering his illegal presence in the country. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director for Boston's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.

Assistant United States Attorney Brian Sullivan from the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
