Yesterday, Jonathon Buck Eason, a 37-year-old resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was sentenced to 180 months in prison by United States District Court Chief Judge Holly Brady. This follows Eason's guilty plea for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay announced the sentencing.
Eason will also face two years of supervised release following his prison term. The case documents reveal that on October 22, 2022, Fort Wayne police responded to a 911 call reporting an individual being battered and threatened with a firearm by Eason. When officers arrived at Eason's residence, they found a firearm in his pocket. Due to a prior felony conviction, Eason was prohibited from possessing the weapon.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation with support from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Stacey R. Speith prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy to enhance PSN by focusing on building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
