U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. has sentenced Jeremiah Cundiff, a 19-year-old from Orlando, to one year and six months in federal prison for possessing a machinegun. Cundiff had entered a guilty plea on October 31, 2024.

Court documents reveal that law enforcement apprehended Cundiff on October 23, 2023, due to an active warrant for his arrest. During the apprehension process, Cundiff attempted to flee and made a movement that led officers to discover a loaded firearm with a machinegun conversion device installed at the location of his movement. DNA evidence linked Cundiff to the firearm.

The conversion device involved in this case is known as a "switch," which is specifically designed to convert semiautomatic pistols into machineguns by enabling them to fire multiple shots with one trigger pull.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Assistant United States Attorney Noah P. Dorman prosecuted the case.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, emphasizing trust-building within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement actions, and evaluating outcomes.
