A man from Fuquay Varina, involved in a significant drug trafficking organization operating around Raleigh, has been sentenced to 138 months in prison. David Weaver, aged 46, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute cocaine after attempting to dispose of the drug by flushing it down his toilet.

In 2022, an investigation was launched by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Raleigh Police Department (RPD) into a drug trafficking organization distributing firearms, marijuana, fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine. Weaver was identified as one of the individuals distributing drugs for this organization. On May 23, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Weaver's residence in Raleigh. During this operation, Weaver was found leaving the bathroom after unsuccessfully trying to flush cocaine. The search led to the seizure of a loaded 9mm pistol; 102 rounds of ammunition; cocaine; crack cocaine; marijuana; and over $11,000 in cash.

This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations threatening the United States through a coordinated multi-agency approach.

Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced the sentencing by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III. The case was investigated by ATF and RPD and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Sandling.
