A Mexican citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for illegal re-entry into the United States. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
The indictment charges Juan Antonio Lopez Mauricio, 25, as the sole defendant. It alleges that Mauricio was found in the district on January 30, 2025, after being removed from the U.S. four times between 2012 and 2015.
If convicted, Mauricio faces a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the severity of the offense and his prior criminal history according to federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski is handling the prosecution for this case. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
