Attorney General Kris Mayes has responded to a recent decision by the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island, which mandates that the Trump administration must immediately restore all federal funding that had been frozen. The court's decision reinforces a prior order preventing the administration from implementing a freeze on up to $3 trillion in federal funding.
Mayes emphasized, "We have won every single court order issued so far in our cases against the Trump administration. I will not stop holding the administration accountable until it starts complying with the rule of law." She highlighted that Arizonans should soon experience relief as millions in federal funding are restored for areas such as public safety, public health, and support for low-income families.
This ruling comes after Mayes and other state attorneys general filed a motion to enforce this restoration on Friday. They presented evidence suggesting that the Trump administration continued to obstruct the disbursement of crucial state funds. These funds include those under key acts like the Inflation Reduction Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and allocations for the National Institutes of Health.
Mayes has urged any Arizona nonprofits or government entities experiencing continued freezing of funds to contact her office.
