Nicandro Garcia Perez, a 40-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The sentencing took place on February 6, 2025, in Lincoln, Nebraska. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis presided over the case.

Garcia Perez's conviction stems from an incident on June 9, 2023. A Nebraska State Patrol trooper encountered him at a rest stop along Interstate 80 near York, Nebraska. After a conversation, Garcia Perez consented to a vehicle search. The trooper discovered multiple square white packages under the spare tire area and additional bricks beneath the second and third row seats of the vehicle. In total, twenty-two bricks were found weighing approximately 55.86 pounds or 25.33 kilograms.

Following his prison term, Garcia Perez will serve a two-year supervised release period as there is no parole in the federal system.

The investigation was conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol.
