U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger has sentenced Kyle Garrett Prevatt, a 24-year-old from Orange Park, to four years in federal prison for possessing firearms as a convicted felon. Prevatt admitted guilt on November 5, 2024.
Court documents reveal that over five months, Prevatt sold multiple firearms to a confidential informant. The transactions involved nine firearms in total. Following the final sale, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Prevatt's vehicle. He fled until he crashed into a ditch and was subsequently apprehended after trying to escape on foot. A search of his truck uncovered additional firearms and ammunition.
Prevatt had previous felony convictions for armed burglary of a dwelling structure or conveyance and unarmed burglary of an unoccupied structure in 2020. These convictions prohibit him from possessing firearms and ammunition under federal law.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Kelly S. Milliron and Kevin C. Frein prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
