A Bedford County man has been sentenced to a prison term of four to eight years, followed by seven years of probation, for causing serious injury to his foster son. Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the sentence of Anthony Plotts, 40, from Hopewell, who had pleaded no contest to felony charges related to aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The incident occurred in July 2022 when the toddler was hospitalized with a brain bleed and other severe injuries after being violently shaken. Plotts had recently gained custody of the child and two others. Attorney General Sunday described the abuse as "some of the most heinous conduct imaginable" and emphasized his commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals in Pennsylvania.

Plotts initially provided an account of events that was inconsistent with medical records and evidence. In addition to this case, Plotts faced charges for providing alcohol to minors at his home in November 2022. He received four years of concurrent probation for corruption of minors and furnishing alcohol to minors.

The cases were prosecuted by Acting Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney General Evan Lowry.
