A man from Little Rock, Arkansas, has been sentenced to federal prison for possessing a machinegun conversion device in the Eastern District of Texas. This was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr.
Jajuan Lee Bonds, aged 22, admitted guilt to possession of a machinegun and received a sentence of 33 months in federal prison. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on February 7, 2025.
Court records reveal that on July 21, 2022, an officer from the Corrigan Police Department stopped Bonds' vehicle during a traffic stop. The officer noticed what appeared to be marijuana in a clear plastic baggie inside the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, the officer found a firearm equipped with a machinegun conversion device known as a "Glock Switch." The modified handgun had previously been reported stolen. Under federal law, a machinegun is defined as any weapon capable of firing more than one shot automatically without manual reloading through a single trigger function.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence while enhancing neighborhood safety through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department introduced an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for PSN based on key principles such as fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Corrigan Police Department. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tommy Coleman prosecuted the case.
