A federal grand jury in Cincinnati has indicted three men, believed to be part of a South American Theft Group, for transporting stolen goods across state lines and falsifying records during a federal investigation. The charges relate to a burglary that occurred on December 9, 2024, at the home of an NFL player.
The defendants, identified as Jordan Francisco Quiroga Sanchez, 22; Bastian Alejandro Orellana Morales, 23; and Sergio Andres Ortega Cabello, 38; are all from Chile. A federal complaint was filed on February 3, with the indictment following shortly after.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker commented on the ongoing investigation: “Our investigation remains ongoing as these individuals seem to be the alleged tip of the iceberg of South American Theft Groups committing crimes throughout our district and elsewhere,” he said. Parker emphasized the commitment to holding those involved accountable and praised law enforcement efforts: “Today is a day that law enforcement scored and spiked the ball.”
FBI Cincinnati Special Agent in Charge Elena Iatarola acknowledged concerns about such theft groups in the area: “South American Theft Groups have been a major concern in the Cincinnati area,” she stated. She expressed gratitude for agency partnerships working on this case.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost highlighted the role of organized crime investigations: “The Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission was created for – and excels at – these types of complex, multi-jurisdictional cases,” he said.
The incident unfolded when law enforcement responded to a reported burglary at around 8:14 p.m., shortly after an associate discovered signs of forced entry at the NFL player's residence while he was away playing in Dallas. Investigation revealed images from a trail camera showing a man carrying luggage through woods behind the home.
Subsequent tracking led authorities to locate suspects' vehicle at La Quinta hotel in Fairborn. During a traffic stop by Ohio State Highway Patrol, Cabello allegedly deleted incriminating photos from his phone related to stolen items and falsified records during this federal probe.
Further analysis showed photos of defendants with luxury items days after the burglary in Florida. Items found included tools for breaking glass and apparel linked to victim's home.
The men were detained locally following their apprehension during this traffic stop. They face up to ten years imprisonment for interstate transportation of stolen property and up to twenty years for falsifying records during an investigation.
Kenneth L. Parker along with other officials announced these charges while Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Springer will represent prosecution interests going forward.
