A Mexican national has been charged with federal offenses following his arrest by U.S. Border Patrol agents for allegedly attempting to smuggle two undocumented juveniles through New Mexico. The incident occurred on January 23, 2025, when agents encountered Jesus Antonio Rodriguez-Bermudez driving on New Mexico State Road 26, a route known for smuggling activities.

Agents observed suspicious behavior and conducted a traffic stop, discovering two unaccompanied juvenile males hidden under a blanket in the vehicle's back seat. It was later confirmed that the juveniles are brothers aged 7 and 9.

Rodriguez-Bermudez reportedly admitted during questioning to transporting the juveniles from El Paso, Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico as part of a smuggling operation. He will remain in custody until his trial date is set. If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Scott Good of the U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector. The case is being investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ry Ellison.
