California DOJ investigates Richmond police shooting under AB 1506

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Richmond, California. The investigation, conducted under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), concerns an incident on February 4, 2025, at approximately 8:45 p.m., involving personnel from the Richmond Police Department and resulting in one fatality.

Following notification from local authorities, the DOJ's California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its investigation according to AB 1506 requirements. Once the investigation concludes, it will be submitted to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
