Allen Lation Baird, a 48-year-old resident of Detroit, Michigan, has pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. The plea was entered in Huntington, West Virginia.
Court documents reveal that Baird was arrested on May 3, 2023, under a warrant issued in Michigan. During his arrest, officers discovered approximately 56 grams of fentanyl and 14 grams of methamphetamine in his possession. Baird admitted to law enforcement that he intended to deliver the substances to another individual.
Baird's sentencing is set for June 5, 2025. He could face up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years under supervised release, and a fine amounting to $250,000.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson, who praised the efforts of the Huntington Police Department and the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force in this case.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers oversaw the proceedings. Assistant United States Attorney Courtney L. Finney is handling the prosecution.
This case falls under Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (SOS), an initiative aimed at curbing the distribution of synthetic opioids in areas heavily impacted by these drugs.
