Hezekiah Carney, 26, of Norfolk, and Jayquan Jones, 22, of Richmond, were sentenced to 38 years in prison for their involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a fellow member of the Almighty Black P. Stone gang. This sentencing is part of a larger case involving four defendants.

U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert for the Eastern District of Virginia stated, “This act of wanton violence exemplifies the senseless brutality we associate with organized gangs and emphasizes the importance of eradicating them from our communities.” He emphasized that successful prosecution was due to partnerships with law enforcement.

Supervisory Official Antoinette T. Bacon from the Justice Department’s Criminal Division commented on the case: “The defendants assaulted and kidnapped a 25-year-old mother of two, drove her to a remote location, and murdered her by shooting her eight times.” She added that such violence affects entire communities and highlighted the Department's priority in protecting communities from violent criminals.

Assistant Director Chad Yarbrough of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division remarked, “When gang members resort to kidnapping and murder, they leave behind shattered lives and communities in fear.” He stressed that this sentencing sends a message about accountability.

Special Agent in Charge Anthony Spotswood from ATF’s Washington Field Division said, “Today’s sentencing marks another significant step towards justice for the victim, her family and the community.” He expressed hope for closure despite acknowledging no sentence can undo the crime's pain.

Court documents revealed that on May 6, 2023, Carney along with co-defendants Jamica Langley, Donnisha Goodman, and Acacia Jackson went to beat a victim over a perceived gang infraction at her Richmond residence. They later returned with Jones; some were armed and masked. The group kidnapped her in a Hyundai Sonata and took her to York County where Jones and Goodman executed her by shooting multiple times.

Afterward, Carney instructed his accomplices to destroy evidence by burning clothes and avoiding law enforcement contact. On May 7, police found Jackson, Goodman, and Langley with a cartridge linked to the crime scene inside their car.

On August 29, 2024, Carney along with Goodman pled guilty to using firearms causing death while Langley and Jackson admitted conspiracy charges related to kidnapping. Earlier this January, Goodman received a 35-year sentence while Langley got 20 years; Jackson's sentencing is set for February 13.

The investigation was conducted by FBI alongside ATF as well as state/local law enforcement partners. Prosecutors included Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lisa McKeel/Mack Coleman plus Trial Attorney Alyssa Levey-Weinstein handling this case within Eastern District VA jurisdiction.
