Maurilio Jastinto-Juarez, a 50-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced on January 27, 2025, for illegal reentry into the United States after being previously removed. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Jastinto-Juarez received a sentence of six months imprisonment, one year of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Court documents revealed that Jastinto-Juarez reentered the United States illegally after his removal on December 16, 2022. His presence in the country was detected when the Department of Homeland Security systems were alerted through fingerprint collection by the Louisiana State Police (LSP). The LSP had obtained his fingerprints following his arrest for driving while intoxicated in Houma, Louisiana, on March 17, 2024.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Louisiana State Police, and the Terrebonne Sheriff's Office in their investigation of this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice Jr., from the General Crimes Unit, is leading the prosecution.
