Juan Jose Arriaga-Moreno, also known as Jaime Garcia Matamoros, was sentenced on January 30, 2025, for illegal reentry into the United States. The U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Arriaga-Moreno, aged 59, received a sentence of time served amounting to six months of imprisonment. He will be deported by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Arriaga-Moreno has been in custody since August 29, 2024.

Court documents reveal that Arriaga-Moreno was initially removed from the United States on November 9, 2018. At that time, ICE officials determined he had no legal right to remain in the country. On August 29, 2024, he was again found by ICE officials in Terrytown, Louisiana without proper authorization.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of ICE in investigating this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K.D. Guice Jr., from the General Crimes Unit, led the prosecution.
