A Rock Island resident, Adrian Warren Neeley, was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison for firearm possession as a felon. The sentence was handed down on January 30, 2025, following an incident that occurred on October 9, 2022.
Court documents reveal that Neeley led police on a high-speed chase from Rock Island, Illinois into Iowa. Reports indicated reckless driving and gunfire associated with his vehicle. He drove at speeds exceeding 80 mph in a zone limited to 30 mph before his vehicle became disabled. During the ensuing foot pursuit by law enforcement officers, Neeley dropped a firearm which was later recovered.
Ballistic evidence linked the firearm to an earlier shooting near the Moline Police Department on August 21, 2022. The court determined that Neeley had fired at his significant other from a vehicle during this incident. His criminal history includes previous felony convictions such as a drug-related charge in 2008.
Post-incarceration, Neeley will undergo three years of supervised release as there is no parole in the federal system.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The case involved investigations by multiple agencies including Davenport and Rock Island Police Departments along with federal agents from ATF.
The prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aiming to reduce violent crime through collaborative efforts among law enforcement and community organizations.
