A woman involved in firearm thefts in Webster County has been sentenced to over four years in federal prison. Madison Diane Kidd, 26, from Stratford, Iowa, was sentenced on January 31, 2025, following her guilty plea on August 16, 2024, for possession of firearms and ammunition by a prohibited person.
Court documents revealed that Kidd had sheltered Michael Ackerson, a fugitive with an outstanding arrest warrant, at her residence. Together, they burglarized two homes on Brushy Creek Road in early January 2023. The stolen items included five firearms, a safe with coins and jewelry, and a compound bow. Law enforcement discovered these items during a search of Kidd's home on January 25, 2023.
Kidd was using methamphetamine at the time and had three prior felony convictions. After Ackerson's arrest during the search operation, recorded jail calls revealed discussions between them about taking responsibility for the stolen firearms. Additionally, Kidd accessed Ackerson's Google account to delete information related to their crimes.
Ackerson was previously sentenced to 100 months in prison for escape from custody and possession of firearms by a felon on December 6, 2023.
Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down Kidd's sentence in Sioux City. Besides serving 57 months in prison, she is required to pay $865.34 in restitution and will undergo three years of supervised release post-incarceration. Federal sentences do not include parole.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department of Justice launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy under PSN on May 26, 2021.
Kidd remains in United States Marshal’s custody pending transfer to federal prison. Assistant United States Attorney Kyndra Lundquist prosecuted the case with investigations conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies including the United States Marshals Service and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
