A Honduran national, Alex Rafael Gonzalez-Morales, has been indicted for illegal reentry into the United States. This announcement was made by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg in Jacksonville, Florida. If found guilty, Gonzalez-Morales could face up to 10 years in federal prison. His trial is scheduled for March 3, 2025.

The indictment states that Gonzalez-Morales had previously been convicted of unlawful reentry and was deported from the United States in November 2019. Despite his removal, he did not obtain consent from the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission. On January 14, 2025, he was discovered voluntarily present in the country.

It is important to note that an indictment is a formal accusation of one or more violations of federal criminal law. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is under investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Miami – Jacksonville sub-office and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rachel Lasry.
