A man from Ivanhoe, Virginia, has been sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for illegal firearm possession and drug charges. Troy Alexander Stamper III, aged 34, admitted guilt in October 2024 to charges of possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine and illegal firearm possession as a previously convicted felon.
Court documents reveal that on June 23, 2023, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence in Fries, Virginia. Their objective was to locate a wanted individual. Upon arrival, witnesses reported that both the wanted person and Stamper fled upon noticing the deputies. It was further reported that Stamper possessed a pistol.
The wanted individual was discovered hiding under the residence and informed deputies that Stamper had concealed a duffel bag and pistol beneath the porch. Deputies found the bag containing a loaded semiautomatic 9 mm pistol, 87 grams of methamphetamine, .873 grams of fentanyl, and four oxycodone tablets.
Stamper was apprehended shortly thereafter and confessed ownership of both the firearm and drugs.
The announcement came from Acting United States Attorney Zachary T. Lee alongside Anthony Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The investigation is being conducted by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution is being led by Acting U.S. Attorney Zachary T. Lee.
