Pontotoc County resident pleads guilty to assault and threatening communications

Dekentrek Donneil McDowell, a 19-year-old resident of Ada, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and threatening interstate communications. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma made the announcement.

The indictment accused McDowell of assaulting an individual on June 4, 2024, with the intent to cause bodily harm using a dangerous weapon. Additionally, on July 27, 2024, McDowell was charged with transmitting a threat via voicemail to injure or kill another individual and that person's unborn child.

These incidents took place in Pontotoc County within the Chickasaw Nation Reservation in Oklahoma's Eastern District. The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by the Ada Police Department and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted McDowell's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered by the court. Until sentencing is completed, McDowell will remain under the custody of the United States Marshals Service.
