An Arkansas man, Darryl Lavell Williams, has been sentenced to 123 months in federal prison for methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute and firearms possession related to drug trafficking. The sentencing was overseen by Chief Judge Susan O. Hickey at the United States District Court in Hot Springs.
Court records indicate that on March 7, 2023, officers from the Hot Springs Police Department observed Williams walking along East Grand Avenue with a black backpack. Recognizing him and aware of an active warrant from the Arkansas Parole Board, officers approached Williams. He attempted to dispose of the backpack by throwing it off a bridge but was taken into custody. A search revealed a loaded Jimenez 9mm handgun and 47 grams of methamphetamine.
Williams pleaded guilty on June 5, 2024, to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney David Clay Fowlkes. The case was investigated by the Special Investigation Division of the Hot Springs Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Trent Daniels.
