Andre Anderson-Dawson, a 41-year-old resident of Michigan City, Indiana, has been sentenced to 58 months in prison. This decision was made by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty following Anderson-Dawson's guilty plea for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay.

In addition to the prison term, Anderson-Dawson will also face three years of supervised release after serving his sentence.

Case documents reveal that in December 2019, Anderson-Dawson violated a protective order while armed with a stolen 9-millimeter firearm. As a previously convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing any firearms. He entered a guilty plea to the federal charge in October 2023. However, during his release pending sentencing, he allegedly engaged in conduct leading to three state court felony domestic battery charges.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with support from the Michigan City Police Department and the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Molly E. Donnelly prosecuted the case.

This legal action is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy as part of PSN focusing on building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
