United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg has announced the indictment of Edgar Rolando Suruy-Xiquin, also known as Marvin Martinez-Vazquez, a 30-year-old Guatemalan national. He is charged with illegal reentry by a deported alien. If found guilty, Suruy-Xiquin could face up to two years in federal prison. The arraignment took place on January 28, 2025, and the trial is scheduled for March 3, 2025.

The indictment states that Suruy-Xiquin was deported from the United States four times previously. After his last removal, he did not obtain permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission into the country. On January 13, 2025, authorities discovered him voluntarily present in the United States.

It is important to note that an indictment serves as a formal charge indicating that a defendant may have violated federal criminal law. However, every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The investigation of this case is being conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey.
