On January 20, 2025, Edward R. Martin was appointed and sworn in as Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia shortly after Donald J. Trump took office as the 47th President of the United States.
“I want to thank President Donald Trump for trusting me to help him re-establish law and order in Washington, D.C.,” said U.S. Attorney Martin. “It is the honor of my lifetime to accept his nomination as Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. I pledge to work as hard as he does for America, even though no one outworks him. I want to thank my wife and family for carrying me to this day, and I pray to the Lord Jesus Christ for the continued wisdom and courage I have always found in Him.”
Martin's background includes being raised in rural New Jersey and attending high school in Jersey City. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a degree in English and a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. His academic pursuits took him overseas as a Thomas Watson Fellow in Indonesia and later as a Rotary Scholar in Rome at Gregorian Pontifical University, where he earned a Bachelor of Philosophy.
Upon returning to the United States, Martin settled in St. Louis, Missouri, where he obtained degrees in law and ethics from St. Louis University. He began his career directing legal clinics for low-income residents while serving as Human Rights Office Director for the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis.
His professional experience extends through various roles including judicial clerkship under Honorable Pasco M. Bowman II at the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and working with Bryan Cave LLP both in Washington D.C., and St. Louis offices.
For two decades, Martin has managed his own law practice alongside public service duties such as Chairmanship at St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners; Chief of Staff position under Missouri Governor Matt Blunt; senior roles within Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund where he succeeded Phyllis Schlafly as President; Chairmanship within Missouri Republican Party; participation on Republican National Committee; candidacy attempts within Missouri elections.
Edward R.Martin resides with his wife—a geriatrics-specialized internal medicine physician—and their four children.
