The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia has announced that it was responsible for over $72 million in collections and forfeitures during Fiscal Year 2024. Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. emphasized the importance of financial justice, stating, “Obtaining financial justice for victims of crime and United States taxpayers is a high priority for this District.”

In Fiscal Year 2024, the office collected more than $36 million through its Financial Litigation Program, which handles civil and criminal debts, fines, and monetary penalties owed to crime victims and the United States. The office secured over $14 million in restitution, fines, and assessments from defendants in criminal cases. These funds contribute to the Department of Justice’s Crime Victims Fund, supporting victim compensation and assistance programs.

Additionally, more than $21 million was collected through affirmative civil enforcement cases aimed at recovering government money lost to fraud or misconduct or collecting fines for violations of federal laws.

The district also deposited over $36 million into various forfeiture funds via civil and criminal forfeiture actions managed by its Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section. Of this amount, over $21 million came from civil forfeiture cases while more than $14 million resulted from criminal cases. Forfeited property is used to compensate crime victims and support law enforcement activities.

During Fiscal Year 2024, over $1 million was returned to crime victims with more than $3 million shared with law enforcement partners.
