Attorney General Ken Paxton addressed the Senate Finance Committee, emphasizing the importance of fully funding the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to ensure effective enforcement of state laws and protection for Texans.

Paxton, as Texas's chief law enforcement officer, pointed out the OAG's strong track record in safeguarding freedoms. The office is currently handling nearly 32,000 cases across various courts from El Paso to Washington, D.C. He highlighted that the OAG generates more revenue through lawsuits than its operational costs, offering taxpayers a return of almost $3 for every $1 spent. With an annual budget of $150 million—about 30% self-funded through attorney fees—the OAG is projected to collect over $400 million.

"As the state’s Chief Legal Officer, it is my mission to champion liberty and justice for Texas. The Office of the Attorney General performs this duty with excellence," stated Paxton. "Under my leadership, the OAG brings in more money than it spends—making it unique in government agencies that we are a benefit to taxpayers rather than a drain. I urge the Texas Legislature to continue supporting my law enforcement efforts by fully funding my ability to defend the law, uphold justice, and hold criminals accountable."
