A man from Shenandoah, Virginia has admitted guilt in a wire fraud case involving the theft of over $200,000 from his former employer. Vernon Fisher, aged 66, pled guilty to two counts of wire fraud and could face up to 20 years in prison when sentenced.
Court documents reveal that between 2017 and 2021, Fisher was employed by a plastics company referred to as 'Victim Company' in Elkton, Virginia. As an accountant and controller for the company, Fisher's duties included tax filing, payroll management, cash handling, bank deposits, and bill payments on behalf of the company.
Fisher confessed to orchestrating a scheme over several years where he linked his personal bank accounts with those of Victim Company. He executed more than 300 financial transactions to divert over $200,000 into his own accounts. The funds were then used for personal purchases at luxury retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Kay Jewelers, Macy’s, Nordstrom among others.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Zachary T. Lee alongside Stanley M. Meador, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Division. The FBI is leading the investigation into this case while Assistant U.S. Attorney Sally J. Sullivan is responsible for prosecuting it.
