California Attorney General Rob Bonta has responded to recent actions by President Trump concerning abortion rights. Bonta issued a statement addressing Trump's pardoning of 23 individuals convicted under the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, the Department of Justice's reduced enforcement of this law, and new Executive Orders impacting abortion rights.
"President Trump may say that he cares about law and order, but his recent pardons tell a very different story," Bonta stated. He highlighted Trump's pardoning of over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol events and criticized the latest pardons affecting those who threatened or harmed abortion clinics and patients.
Bonta affirmed California's commitment to reproductive rights, stating, "California has been and will continue to be a safe haven for reproductive rights." He emphasized that state law ensures access to abortion care is safe and confidential, with violators facing accountability from his office or local prosecutors.
