Jim Bob Story, a 49-year-old resident of Cushing, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm and receiving and concealing stolen property. This announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.

The charges against Story stem from an incident on February 21, 2024, when officers from the Sac and Fox Nation Tribal Police Department were informed about a stolen vehicle located on Story's property. A search warrant led authorities to recover a rifle, ammunition, and other stolen items such as a welder and log splitter.

Story's criminal record includes previous felony convictions for second-degree burglary and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in Payne County District Court, as well as conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Lincoln County District Court.

The case was tried in federal court because Story is a member of the Sac and Fox Nation, with the crimes occurring on land held in trust for the tribe. On January 15, 2024, U.S. District Judge Jodi W. Dishman sentenced him to 60 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. Judge Dishman emphasized Story’s extensive criminal history and highlighted the need to prevent future offenses.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Sac and Fox Nation Tribal Police Department; and the Cushing Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany Edgmon prosecuted the case.

Further details can be found in public records.
