Erie resident sentenced to over six years for meth trafficking

A man from Erie, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 76 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the sentencing of Walter Scott McMahon, aged 58, which was handed down by United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan on January 22, 2025.

The court heard that between July 2019 and June 2020, McMahon conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine in the Western District of Pennsylvania. Federal wiretaps recorded McMahon obtaining quantities of methamphetamine for distribution.

Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Rivetti praised the efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Pennsylvania State Police for their investigation leading to McMahon's prosecution. Other agencies involved included the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation; United States Postal Inspection Service; Homeland Security Investigations; Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General; Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office; Erie County District Attorney’s Office; Millcreek Police Department; Erie Bureau of Police; and additional local law enforcement agencies.

This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation aimed at identifying and dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations using a collaborative approach among various law enforcement entities.
