United States Attorney Susan Lehr has announced the sentencing of Jovan Travis, a 38-year-old resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. On January 23, 2025, in federal court in Lincoln, Travis was sentenced for one count of felon in possession of a firearm. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis imposed a sentence of 92 months' imprisonment on Travis. Following his prison term, Travis will serve a two-year period of supervised release. It is important to note that there is no parole available in the federal system.

The case originated on January 12, 2023, when an officer from the Omaha Police Department (OPD) was informed by a Confidential Informant (CI) about illegal narcotics sales. The officer coordinated with the CI to set up a controlled purchase of pills from Travis. During their meeting on the same day, Travis informed the CI that he did not have the pills but instead offered to sell a handgun for $300. The CI proceeded with the transaction using task force funds. The handgun was later identified as stolen property from Illinois.

Travis has prior convictions for multiple crimes punishable by more than one year of imprisonment.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Omaha Police Department.
