New York Attorney General Letitia James has responded to a memorandum from the U.S. Department of Justice concerning state and local law enforcement's role in federal immigration enforcement.

James stated, "This is an attempt by the President to force state and local governments to carry out his mass deportations. New York will not be bullied into breaking the law in order to fulfill a campaign promise. We will not sit idly by and allow the Constitution to be undermined."

She emphasized that New York has laws designed to protect immigrants and restrict cooperation with federal immigration efforts, which she insists should continue to be adhered to by all law enforcement and officials within the state.

"As Attorney General, I will always uphold our laws and protect the rights of all New Yorkers, including the rights of immigrants," James affirmed.

Additionally, guidance for local law enforcement has been issued by Attorney General James and is accessible on the Office of the Attorney General website.
