U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Tyran Adams, a 34-year-old resident of Harvey, Louisiana, has pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute tapentadol. The plea was entered on January 16, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon.
Court documents reveal that Adams was arrested on June 18, 2024, for possessing 200 tablets of tapentadol. He now faces potential penalties including up to twenty years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million, three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is set for April 24, 2025.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched a strengthened violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021. This strategy emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation's New Orleans Gang Task Force conducted the investigation into this case. Special Assistant United States Attorney James Ollinger and Assistant United States Attorney Mike Trummel from the Violent Crimes Unit are handling the prosecution.
