Timothy M. O’Shea, the United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that an indictment has been unsealed charging two men from Dane County with armed bank robbery. Parish Barbary-Wheatherby, 29, from Madison, and Daryle Shelton, 22, from Windsor, are accused of robbing a Fitchburg bank on December 2, 2024. They allegedly used a firearm during the crime. Barbary-Wheatherby faces an additional charge for possessing three firearms as a felon on December 19, 2024.

Shelton was apprehended today in Windsor after a police chase and appeared in federal court in Madison. At the time of his arrest, he was found with a loaded firearm. Barbary-Wheatherby was arrested earlier on December 19 in Fitchburg. Both remain detained pending further legal proceedings.

If convicted of armed bank robbery, each man could face up to 25 years in prison. The charge of brandishing a firearm during a crime carries a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years and could result in life imprisonment. The felon-in-possession charge against Barbary-Wheatherby could lead to a maximum penalty of 15 years.

The charges stem from investigations by the Fitchburg Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force. This task force includes federal agents from ATF and Task Force Officers from local agencies such as the Dane County and Clark County Sheriff’s Offices and police departments from Fitchburg, Madison, Sun Prairie, and La Crosse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Pfluger is overseeing the prosecution.

Authorities remind that charges are accusations at this stage and both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
