A North Kingstown man has been sentenced to 17 years in state prison for child molestation, according to an announcement by Attorney General Peter F. Neronha. The sentencing took place in Washington County Superior Court, where Daniel Peckham, aged 36, pleaded nolo contendere to two counts of first-degree child molestation.

On January 15, 2025, Superior Court Justice Melanie Wilk Thunberg sentenced Peckham to a total of 40 years, with 17 years to be served and the remainder as probation. Additionally, a no-contact order was issued between Peckham and the victim. He is also required to register as a sex offender, attend counseling, and be subject to community supervision.

Attorney General Neronha emphasized the importance of victims coming forward: “Far too often, victims of sexual assault suffer in silence, and perpetrators get away with their terrible crimes because they go unreported.” He expressed gratitude towards the victim for their bravery and acknowledged the role of the North Kingstown Police Department in resolving the case.

The State was prepared to prove that between 2019 and 2020, Peckham assaulted a victim under age 14 multiple times in North Kingstown. The victim was known to him.

North Kingstown Police Chief John Urban Jr. praised both his department's efforts and the partnership with the Attorney General’s Office: “I commend the victim for coming forward, an act of bravery that made our community safer.”

Assistant Attorneys General Mark Trovato and Special Assistant Attorney General Alyssa Mason from the Office of the Attorney General led the prosecution alongside Detective Greg Miga from the North Kingstown Police Department.
