The California Supreme Court will resume its practice of hearing oral arguments in Sacramento on February 5, after a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, the court improved technological capabilities in its courtrooms located in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles to support livestreaming and remote arguments.

Last year, the return to Sacramento was delayed by adverse weather conditions, including flooding and power outages, which necessitated a remote session instead. The tradition of conducting oral arguments in Sacramento has been part of the court's history since 1878.

Four cases are scheduled for argument during the upcoming session at the Stanley Mosk Library and Courts Building on Capitol Mall. Throughout 2025, sessions will also be held in Los Angeles and San Francisco. A special outreach session for students is planned as well. The court maintains support for hybrid formats that allow counsel to participate either in person or remotely upon request.
