Duane A. Evans, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana

United States Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced charges against Evin Enrique Funez Cruz, a 22-year-old native of Honduras. Funez Cruz is accused of reentering the United States after being previously removed, a violation under Title 8, United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and (b)(1).

Court documents reveal that Funez Cruz was apprehended in St. Tammany Parish around January 6, 2025. He had been deported to Honduras on June 21, 2024.

If found guilty, Funez Cruz could face up to ten years in prison, a fine reaching $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that the bill of information is merely an accusation and does not equate to guilt until proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
