Spiro resident pleads guilty to possessing unregistered firearm

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has reported that Bryant Dewayne Underwood, a 36-year-old resident of Spiro, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to possessing an unregistered firearm.

According to the indictment, Underwood was found in possession of a 5.56 NATO (.223) caliber short-barreled rifle on October 26, 2023. The firearm was not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office.

U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow accepted Underwood's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered, and Underwood will remain in custody under the United States Marshals Service until sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jarrod Leaman and Edith Singer are representing the United States in this case.
