A Johnstown, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for narcotics trafficking. George Mazey, 53, received the sentence from United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan on January 13, 2025. In addition to the prison term, Mazey will serve four years of supervised release.
The conviction stems from activities between February and April 2021, where Mazey conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute significant quantities of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and crack cocaine in the Western District of Pennsylvania. During this period, Mazey was intercepted via a federal wiretap while obtaining drugs for distribution.
Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon prosecuted the case. The investigation involved several agencies led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Laurel Highlands Resident Agency and Homeland Security Investigations. Additional contributions came from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation; United States Postal Inspection Service; Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General; Pennsylvania State Police; Cambria County District Attorney’s Office; Indiana County District Attorney’s Office; Cambria County Sheriff’s Office; Cambria Township Police Department; Indiana Borough Police Department; Johnstown Police Department; Upper Yoder Township Police Department; Richland Police Department; Ferndale Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies.
United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced the sentencing as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. The OCDETF program aims to identify and dismantle high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations using a coordinated approach involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
