A Providence man has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison for child molestation, according to an announcement by Attorney General Peter F. Neronha. The sentencing took place in Providence Superior Court, where Kevin Frias, aged 42, was ordered to serve time at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for sexually assaulting a female victim under the age of 14 over a period from 2013 to 2018.

On January 9, 2025, Superior Court Justice Maureen B. Keough handed down a sentence of 50 years with 25 years to serve and an additional 50 years of probation. Judge Keough also mandated that Frias register as a sex offender, attend counseling for sex offenders, and be subject to community supervision along with lifetime GPS monitoring.

The conviction followed an October 7, 2024 jury verdict finding Frias guilty on two counts of first-degree child molestation and three counts of second-degree child molestation.

“This defendant received a significant sentence for his crimes because this victim came forward and told her story, exhibiting extraordinary bravery in the process,” stated Attorney General Neronha. “Fostering a supportive environment for victims is paramount to keeping our community safe from perpetrators of sexual violence. My thanks to the Providence Police Department for their partnership on this difficult case.”

During the trial held in October, it was proven beyond reasonable doubt that Frias assaulted the young victim multiple times at his home in Providence between 2013 and 2018.

“I am grateful for the hard work of the Providence Police Department and our partnership with Attorney General’s Office, which allowed us to bring this defendant to justice,” said Providence Police Colonel Oscar L. Perez. “I commend the victim for her courage in this case, resulting in a sentence that leaves our community safer.”

The investigation and prosecution were led by Assistant Attorneys General Shannon Signore and Special Assistant Attorney General Megan Andrews from the Office of the Attorney General, along with retired Detectives Theodore Michaels and Terrence Green from the Providence Police Department.
