United States Attorney Mac Schneider has announced the release of the 2024 Community Report from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota (USAO-ND). The report outlines the office's activities and achievements throughout fiscal year 2024, both in legal proceedings and community engagements across the district.
"I could not be prouder of the career prosecutors, civil litigators, and talented staff of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota," Schneider stated. "They exhibit not just excellence in the courtroom, but also a commitment to our communities and law enforcement partners that makes North Dakota a safer place. Upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting civil rights is not just a mission statement, it’s the daily work of the office."
The Department of Justice statistics reveal that USAO-ND ranked first among ten districts in the Eighth Circuit regarding defendants per Assistant United States Attorney. Nationally, it placed sixth out of 94 districts in this category. Despite handling a substantial caseload, USAO-ND achieved a conviction rate exceeding 95% in 2024. Furthermore, over 95% of criminal appeals decided on their merits were resolved favorably for USAO-ND last year.
The report highlights various initiatives by USAO-ND aimed at reducing violent crime drivers, enhancing public safety resources in Indian country, prosecuting cases to protect children, combating dangerous drugs and fraud, and ensuring safety along the northern border. It also emphasizes significant efforts by its Civil Division to safeguard taxpayers through complex litigation representation and federal civil rights statutes enforcement.
