A Suffolk man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking and firearms offenses. The sentencing follows an incident on September 15, 2023, when law enforcement intercepted a package containing two pounds of crystal methamphetamine shipped from Murrieta, California, to Norfolk via the U.S. Postal Service.
Investigators removed most of the methamphetamine from the package, leaving only 33 grams, and conducted a controlled delivery to its intended address. Dobeir Quam Rudolph, aged 35, arrived at the location to collect the parcel. When officers attempted to arrest him, Rudolph resisted and tried to flee in his vehicle. During this attempt, he was seen reaching for something and trying to destroy his cellphone before being taken into custody.
A search of Rudolph's vehicle revealed a handgun where he had been reaching. As someone with two prior felony convictions, Rudolph is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The announcement of Rudolph's sentencing was made by several officials: Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Anthony A. Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division; Jarod Forget, Special Agent in Charge for the DEA’s Washington Division; Jason S. Miyares, Attorney General of Virginia; and Mark Talbot, Chief of Norfolk Police.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin M. Comstock and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc W. West from the Virginia Attorney General’s Office.
